Australia is a large and diverse country, and has a large and diverse population of orchids, with over 800 species in 107 genera. Orchids are found in all states and territories of Australia, from a single species of cold tolerant Dendrobium in Tasmania to a large number of terrestrials in Western & Southern Australia to a large number of tropical species along the eastern seaboard. Some species are extremely adaptable to cultivation and have been used extensively in hybridizing, while other species are all but impossible to cultivate out of their native habitat. There are large species with large or many showy flowers to species with flowers so minute you can easily miss them. There is even a single species that lives entirely underground. Some species like full sun, while other like a total absence of direct sun. With such diversity, general cultural advice is impossible.
